Children Day Care

Children day care in French is called “crèches”. French public nurseries and daycare centres are funded by local and regional authorities. All public and private nursery staff must meet strict standards of training, and are required to hold a childcare diploma. Here we provide information about children day care. However, please note that it’s really hard to find an availability since most of children day care in Paris is usually full and you have to submit the request of nursery months in advance.

As an alternative, you could search for a private baby-sitter. There are plenty of English-speaking part-timers you can hire for a short period. As a reference, you could check the Craiglist website.

Children Workshops on Monday Evening

If you’re looking for something to keep kids occupied during the Monday evening reception, we offer you a small workshop which will be held in Jardin d’Acclimatation, just a short walk from the Palais des Congrès conference center. It’s a 2-hour workshop with an English-speaking magician designed for children aged 4-10. It would take place between 17:30 and 19:30 and the price is 30€ for two hours, including the entrance ticket for the botanical garden. There are few ways to get to Jardin d’Acclimatation, which you can see below. We expect the parents to be able to send and pick up the children, accompanied by us, to and from the Jardin d’Acclimation.

We need to know how many children would be interested in attending the workshop, in order to make a reservation. We need at least 10 kids, but no more than 20. If you’d like your children to attend, please send an email to Sally or Antoine before Saturday evening because we need to plan it in advance.

Parks & Playground

There are few things you can do around Palais des Congres with your children. You might want to take your kids to the cinema inside Palais des Congrès. There’s also a toy store Le Préau de Ferdinand Jouets located at 22 Rue Saint-Ferdinand, near Avenue des Ternes.

Or, you might want to enjoy the spring in Paris with your kids in a park! There’a a nearby wide park called Jardin d’Acclimatation. It’s a play park for children, that was actually designed in the 19th century, and although it’s been updated with lots of cool rides and play equipment there’s still an air of old Paris about the place. The jungle boat ride with its period depiction of natives sitting in the grass and pith-helmet wearing colonialists are particularly historic. Most of the play equipment is designed for the park itself (instead of purchased off the shelf and plopped there), which makes it far more intriguing and novel. One should definitely arrive on the “petit train” that leaves from Porte Maillot, a narrow gauge choo-choo that chugs through the perimeter of the Bois de Boulonge before depositing you at the entrance. This place has it all: a sprinkler park, huge expanses of park equipment for every age, and a boardwalk-like section of rides and fast food. It’s open every day from 10 AM to 7 PM, including the 1st of May.

The normal tarif to enter the park is 3€. Children under 3 years can enter for free. To get into the attraction places, it cost 2.9€. Or, if you’re in a large group, you can buy a packet of tickets. The number of tickets and the price for each packet of ticket vary, from 15 to 50 tickets for up to 90€.

There are few ways to reach it.
Little train from Porte Maillot
It’s called “Petit Train Porte Maillot”. It departs from Porte Maillot (near the metro station Porte Maillot) every 15 minutes, passes Porte des Sablons, and follows a route through the woods to the garden. It traverses the entire length. For a round trip it costs 2.9€. You can also buy it together with the park’s entrance ticket for only 5.9€.
Metro
From Palais de Congres take Metro Line 1 in direction La Defence to Les Sablons. It takes 10 min and costs 1.70 euros. At the station, take Exit 2 (Sortie 2) Jardin d’acclimatation. When exiting (back to exit), cross over to the street on your right, walk straight and take the first street to the right (Rue d’Orleans) and follow signs to the park.
Walk
It takes approximately 15 minutes. When exiting straight from the Grand Amphi of Palais de Congrès, go right, cross over streets and go to “Avenue Charles de Gaulle”. Follow that street, go left on “Rue d’Orleans” close to the Les Sablons Metro station.
